Alpe du Grand Serre Ski Resort Announces Permanent Closure

The sad demise of this popular family resort, just one hour drive from Grenoble, will surely not be the last to blame snow drought and warmer temperatures at low altitudes in recent winters for its struggle to stay open, even though it is located in the French Alps at an altitude of 1368m culminating at 2184m and has 27 snow cannons.

For 85 years, skiers have enjoyed the charms of the Alpe du Grand Serre, in the commune of La Morte and the department of Isère, with 55k of pistes and cross-country skiing over 20k of trails in the forest. It's a sad loss for skiers, and a tragedy for the workers, business owners and community of the Alpe du Grand Serre.
